A Course in Miracles

Be the Awareness

Everything that exists arises in awareness. Outside of awareness nothing exists.

You are that awareness.

"But I am this body."

It certainly seems so, but let's explore that idea. Are you aware of a body you call "me"? To which we'd all say "yes." Well then, if you are aware of a "me" body, you are not that me-body. You are the essence that is aware.

"Not so fast. I'm aware of my hand, and my hand is still mine."

Is it? You are aware of the hand. You are also aware of the thought that says the hand belongs to you. Both of them appear. Neither of them is the one seeing.

Every thought that arises. Every bodily sensation. Every emotion. Every experience. It all appears in awareness. And eventually it dissolves back into that same awareness.

You are that awareness.

All suffering, all sorrow, all distress comes from forgetting what you are and taking yourself to be a me-body.

But we can make a different choice, and, in the words of A Course in Miracles, "escape all pain that what you chose before has brought to you."

Be the awareness in which everything arises. Everything else comes and goes. You do not.
